Lawn Care Tips

Understanding the correct way to care for your lawn is essential to keep it healthy and clean. However, knowing when to mow, how to fertilise, and how to keep your backyard in top condition can be challenging. Gravely is here to provide you with our top tips for caring for your garden as a beginner lawn enthusiast!

Mowing Your Lawn

One of the first steps of good garden maintenance is investing time in mowing your lawn. Regular mowing is essential to keep your property looking great and healthy. When mowing, ensure your mower blades are sharp to get a much cleaner and easier cut. A typical rule of thumb is to cut no more than a third of your grass height at one time to ensure it will grow back strong.

Nourish Your Lawn With Fertiliser

Fertilising is a great way to provide your lawn with the essential nutrients it needs to encourage healthy growth. Lawn care products that allow a slow, controlled release of fertilisers work best. Releasing it over time is an excellent way to ensure your grass isn’t overwhelmed and damaged by too much applied at once.

Get Rid Of Pesky Weeds

It’s good practice to check your garden every week or two for any weeds that might be creeping in. When removing them, it is vital to remove the entire root system of the weed; otherwise, they will keep coming back. You can use a simple weeding tool to help you get the whole weed out of the ground, but using your hands works just fine too!

Keep Grass Hydrated

Just like us, our grass needs water to stay hydrated! The ideal time to water your lawn is in the early morning. Watering at this time will make your yard less susceptible to diseases, as the ground won’t stay damp for as long once the sun comes up. Also, the soil will have a bit more time to absorb the water before evaporation occurs. Watering your lawn for longer periods less frequently will also improve its drought tolerance.

Aerate Your Lawn

Aerating your backyard helps your lawn grow a more established root system to keep it healthy and strong. It also helps your lawn absorb water better. To aerate, you can use a garden fork, aerator sandals or an aerator. Ensure you are aerating when your soil is moist and the grass is actively growing to get the best results.

By staying consistent with your garden maintenance routine, you can ensure you have a lawn that not only looks amazing but is healthy too! If you want to learn more about our Gravely mowers or how to get started with lawn care, contact our team today!
